Based on the 1992 animated film, Disney's Aladdin tells the story of Aladdin, a street-wise commoner, whose life changes when he meets a genie who will grant him three wishes. Aladdin wants the hand of Princess Jasmine. That means, however, he's going to have to go through Jafar, a genie with plans of his own.

The musical was a smashing success, garnering five Tony Award nominations. including Best Musical. It won one Tony for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical for James Monroe Iglehart. Iglehart played Genie in Seattle and on Broadway.
